Powerful Mexican Video of Children Urging for a Better Mexico Gets Over 2 Million Views

UPDATE, April 18: The original video that got over 2 million views on YouTube got removed by the user (NMF) but here is the same video on on another channel:

An organization called Nuestro México del Futuro has achieved a social viral sensation with a powerful video depicting Mexican children acting out scenes of a corrupt nation and then demanding the the country's politicians wake up to create a better vision for the country's future.

As of tonight, the video, which was released this Monday, has gained over 2 million views on YouTube.

The video's viral explosion is starting to hit the United States and is already being covered by major outlets like NPR.

As part of its video campaign, Our Mexico of the Future is calling for Mexican citizens to contribute their ideas about how to solve their nation's problems. As of Thursday afternoon, more than 10.5 million people had submitted their ideas, according to the group's website.

The group plans to compile the ideas into a book, which it will then present to candidates in Mexico's 2012 presidential election.

Writing at CNN, Mariano Castillo says that some of the leading candidates have seen the video:

"Vazquez Mota, of the ruling National Action Party, said the video's message can't go unnoticed, while Institutional Revolutionary Party candidate Pena Nieto expressed that now is the time for change, as the video suggests."

"Leftist candidate Lopez Obrador, of the Party of the Democratic Revolution, had not seen the video, but said he agreed with the theme of change."

In a behind-the-scenes video posted by the group, the child actors who participated in the mockumentary discuss their own ideas for Mexico's future.

As for who is behind the video? Well, Mexicn blogs are already questioning it, a la Kony2012. Here is a post in Spanish that explains that this social movement is being privately funded by a group headed up by billionaire miner Alberto Bailleres.

The Latino Rebels Announce Our “Pages We Love” Weekly Feature

As LatinoRebels.com grows and becomes one of the country's top independently-owned new media companies for the Latino community, we will never forget our roots and our vision: to promote and celebrate the world that we love. A bilingual and bicultural world that believes in alternative and unfiltered voices, respectful points of view, and comunidad. Starting next week, we will begin to turn over a little corner of our site to feature on a weekly basis three pages we love: Cuéntame, Pa'lante Latino, and Remezcla.

Why are we doing this? That is easy. We LOVE reading these pages.

They make us think. They make us laugh. They make us want to sing out loud as we work. They inform us. They challenge us. And they make us proud, proud to be a part of a new wave of content that is relevant, forward-thinking, and fresh. They represent some of the web's best Latino content today. This is not a partnership, nor is it a distribution deal. We are just sharing these pages' excellent content and celebrating what they offer. We are big fans, and we think our readership would feel the same.

So, next Tuesday, we will begin to feature Cuéntame, the ¡Latino Instigators!

Ever since we started our page last year, we have been following this page and we are so glad we did. Who is Cuéntame? We will let them tell you:

Cuéntame means: Count me or tell me your story – and we ask everyone to do so!

Cuéntame is a place for Latinos and the public in general! Whether YOU are a sports fan, movie fan, activist, artist, student, parent, organizer, Latino or not, award winning novelist, astronaut, actor, painter, or anything else, all are welcome here! Tell us your story!

The official page of the ¡Latino Instigators! Through short video, docu-series, interviews from our studio, the streets, or sent to us by you, we unite voices and create a powerful community.

From tackling unjust immigration laws to exclusive features on Latino arts, music and film you will connect directly with fellow activists, artists, writers, figures and much more!

On Thursdays, we will feature Pa'lante Latino, because the "only way is forward." PAL has become an excellent source of forgotten Latino history, highlighting stories that don't make the history books. They do impeccable research and they are also an amazing group of people. They value community service, social good, and positive advancement for the US Latino community.

And finally, Fridays will feature Remezcla.

One of the top Latino culture, music and entertainment pages in the world, Remezcla is a unique page because it has local pages in five of the top Latino markets in the US. We have always loved the idea, and they are class acts. Here is what you need to know about this group:

Founded in 2006, Remezcla.com is an innovative local guide to cutting-edge Latin culture in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco. Always with an independent view and an eye out for what’s next, Remezcla has established itself as the source for underground and emerging trends in Latin music, visual arts, film, nightlife, food, and more. Through its online city guides, customized print publications, and lifestyle events, Remezcla offers an organic and relevant approach to reaching young and trend-setting Latinos.

Here are to the three pages that we love. We are thrilled to shared your content on our site.

And who knows? We still need to fill Mondays and Wednesdays. Soon there might be other great pages to feature.

Democratic Strategist Hilary Rosen (@hilaryr) Steps Into a Twitter Fight That She Won’t Win

First off, hear what Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen said last night on CNN.

Next, Twitter explodes and Rosen felt the social media heat. After the firestorm, Rosen tweeted the following out to Ann Romney (and that was a GOOD THING):

Then today, instead of taking the humble pie and just letting the social media reaction take control of her comments, Rosen dug in her heels a bit more as she wrote on a CNN blog:

Oh my, you should read the tweets and the hate mail I got after that. The accusations were flying. I don't know what it means to be a mom (I have 2 children). I obviously don't value the work that a mother does and how hard it is (the hardest job I have ever had); and I absolutely hate anyone who doesn't have the same views as I do (hate is a strong word).

Spare me the faux anger from the right who view the issue of women's rights and advancement as a way to score political points. When it comes to supporting policies that would actually help women, their silence has been deafening. I don't need lectures from the Republican National Committee on supporting women and fighting to increase opportunities for women; I've been doing it my whole career. Sound off: What do you think about Rosen's comments?

If they want to attack me and distract the public's attention away from their nominee's woeful record, it just demonstrates how much they just don't get it.

My favorite tweet was from someone who said that Republicans like Ann Romney so much more than Mitt that by attacking her (which I didn't), I got people to defend him in a way they never would. That last one, I can actually understand. Now let's be clear on one thing. I have no judgments about women who work outside the home versus women who work in the home raising a family. I admire women who can stay home and raise their kids full time. I even envy them sometimes. It is a wonderful luxury to have the choice. But let's stipulate that it is not a choice that most women have in America today.

Eventually, Rosen offered an apology to all this mess, with a little editorializing:

"I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended," Rosen said in a statement. "As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen."

It was a change from hours earlier, when Rosen went on Twitter to say she admires the wife of GOP presumptive nominee Mitt Romney, but then added, “But your husband shouldn't say you are his expert on women and the economy.”

Is it that hard to just saw you screwed up? Do you still have to dig in your heels and still jab at Romney? When Rosen appeared again on CNN this afternoon, it took her a long time to just say, "Hey, i messed up and I am sorry."

No wonder the White House is trying to distance themselves from Rosen and now Jay Carney has to defend himself. Thanks for the grief, Hilary.

And this afternoon, President Obama weighed in:

Fact is, yes, Mitt Romney is a tool and he is not the best the GOP has to offer, but Rosen can't have it both ways. Ann Romney has MS. She is a mom. She is a grandmother. Yes, she is wealthy, but she is still a mom. Being a mom is the world's toughest job. When the right attacks Michelle Obama and the left screams for blood, why should Rosen now be surprised that the GOP pounces back when the same thing happens? And they WILL come at you hard and quick through the weapon that is now 140 characters. Also, why why why did Rosen try to defend her comments and tweets? She is only making it worse. Granted, this won't be an election changer, just a fact of the 24/7 social media news cycle.

Also, the pundits have to know by now that yes, social media is a dangerous place. It can eat you alive if you fight it. A simple "damn, what was I thinking?" tweet early in the game would have diffused a lot of this hype.

Humility, Hilary, it goes a long way. By now, you might have learned how to practice it more. Lesson learned. File this one under the Geraldo Rivera-Spike Lee-Ozzie Guillen-Roland S. Martin-ChimichnagaGate-Anthony Weiner-Twitter-Fail-#NoMames-and-You-Get-a-Chancla file.

Social media is immediate and if you don't know how to handle it, it can swallow you whole.

Official Pool Report of George Zimmerman’s Court Appearance Released to Trayvon Martin Media List

This is the official pool report about George Zimmerman's court appearance today. It was shared this afternoon via email to all credentialed media covering the Trayvon Martin case:

Zimmerman entered the small courtroom in the jail wearing a one-piece gray jumpsuit, his shackled in front of him. He stood next to his attorney, Mark O'Mara. Judge Mark E. Herr  was not in the courtroom, but was speaking through a closed-circuit TV connection. During the four-minute hearing, During the brief appearance, Zimmerman stood up straight, looked straight ahead and wore a gray prison jumpsuit. He spoke only to answer "Yes, sir," twice after he was asked basic questions about the charge against him and his attorney. His hair was shaved down to stubble and he had a thin goatee, which appeared consistent with his booking photo from the day before.  The judge said he found probable cause to move ahead with the case and that an arraignment would be held on May 29 at 1:30 p.m. before another judge.

The Day After George Zimmerman Gets Charged, Trayvon Martin’s Mother Says Incident Was an “Accident”

Here is an interesting interview from this morning, where Sybrina Fulton tells the "Today Show" that the death of her son Trayvon Martin was an "accident." She also said that anyone who commits an act like this should show true remorse. Last night, George Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder.

What do you think of the interview?

Allen West Calls Out His Inner Joe McCarthy: And Gets Head Nods From Constituents

Yes, Congressman Allen West is controversial, to say the least. And some people are saying that he would make a great VP candidate for Mitt Romney.

This week, West brought us all back to the 1950s, during the Red Scare of Wisconsin Senator Joe McCarthy. Here is the video clip, where he claims that "78 to 81 members" of the Democrat Part are card-carrying members of the Communist Party.

West was serious, but what is even more amazing is the reaction from the people in the audience? WOW, they say. WOW. This is just so un-American! Traitors! Commies!

We are starting to think that the fear-mongering by extreme members of the GOP is just a tactic to justify the fears of part of its base. And let the black man make the statement so that this extreme base can claim they are all for racial equality. Fact is, Rep. West is just tossing accusations to feed into the myth that America is becoming Russia. Memo to West and others: the Cold War is over. We got bigger problems to deal with, but hey, if you have to believe that there are (gasp) COMMUNISTS in the world to make you a real American, go for it. As for us? Where is the proof, Rep. West? Make accusations like that for headlines, and then you wuss out and don't prove your accusation? That, Rep. West, is weak.

By the way, when pushed for proof, West said that he couldn't actually back up his claim.

Ok, time to end this piece. We have to go back to the collective. Yes, that was sarcasm. Celebrate freedom, Rep. West, not some myth that the United States is a communist country. Did you check in with Ozzie Guillen's critics this week? Is that why you did it?
