How Different Outlets Are Reporting President’s “Bullshitter” Comment

For a second, we thought President Obama morphed into President Lyndon Johnson, when reports of his Rolling Stone interview were released this morning and the following excerpt caused everyone to panic:

“We arrived at the Oval Office for our 45-minute interview … on the morning of October 11th. … As we left the Oval Office, executive editor Eric Bates told Obama that he had asked his six-year-old if there was anything she wanted him to say to the president. … [S]he said, ‘Tell him: You can do it.’ Obama grinned. … ‘You know, kids have good instincts,’ Obama offered. ‘They look at the other guy and say, “Well, that’s a bullshitter, I can tell.”’”

As you might imagine, several outlets have reported it and depending on who you are, the headlines are also being reportedly differently. However, you would be surprise which outlets were a bit careful in the headlines they use. Here are just a few samples:

FOX NEWS: "Kids know the 'other guy' is a 'bullsh-ter,' Obama tells Rolling Stone

MSN NOW: Did President Obama just call Mitt Romney 'a bullsh***er'?

THE GUARDIAN: Obama calls Romney a 'bullshitter' – the election just got a whole lot coarser

TWITCHY: Wow. President Classy: Obama tells Rolling Stone that Romney is a ‘bullshitter’

THE SLATE: Obama Finds a More Colorful Word for "Romnesia"

THE WEEKLY STANDARD: Obama: Romney's a 'Bulls—–'

REASON: Barack Obama Calls Mitt Romney a “Bullshitter” Without a Hint of Irony

THE INDEPENDENT: Obama sends fresh shockwaves through election race with 'bullshitter' attack on Romney

OUTSIDE THE BELTWAY: Faux Outrage Of The Day: Obama Called Romney A “Bullshitter"

LE MONDE: Obama et le "bullshiter" Mitt Romney (By the way, this is by far our favorite one, even though the French is missing an extra "t.")

We can go on, but our point is this: everyone media outlet in the world is biased. Everyone of them. In fact, every flipping human being in the world in biased. And when the President of the United States speaks, people will listen, especially if he curses on the record.. Most conservative outlets will twist the headlines (except for FOX in this case, since it was strangely accurate), while those sympathetic to Obama will not. Welcome to media.

We find it hard to believe that the President didn't know what he was doing. Do most Americans feel that Romney is full of it? Well, maybe the 47%. And have we become a society that has lowered the discourse? Yes. So in the end, this is still a game, and quite frankly with social media and the Internet, we all love to play in it. The word choice was unfortunate for the President, but maybe this was all done on purpose? So that it would have people talking, yes, even people in France.
