Video Shows #AndyLopez Memorial Damaged by Fire

UPDATE, January 3, 2014: Police have ruled the fire accidental.

Here is a video posted today on YouTube showing burnt remnants of a makeshift memorial for Andy Lopez, the local Santa Rosa boy shot eight times by police in October for carrying a a toy BB gun Deputy Erick Gelhaus was real.

The YouTube poster wrote this: “Some time early this morning on the second day of 2014 Andy Lopez Memorial has been burned. I have no other words for this.”

However, it is still unclear what happened.

A local newspaper reported the following:

The fire was reported around 8 a.m. Thursday at the Moorland Avenue memorial and was quickly extinguished by Rincon Valley firefighters.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Thursday. It was not immediately clear whether the fire was an accident or if it was intentionally set.
