By now, you have probably heard about how FOX Sports reporter Emily Austin got fired for going on a June 9 Facebook Live conversation with Barstool Sports and saying, “I didn’t even know Mexicans were that smart. …That’s f***ed up. I didn’t mean it like that. You see, you guys know that the Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class.” And other fun racist things.
One week after the news broke on major sports news outlets and reddit threads, the Latino digital space discovered the story, so it seems that EVERYONE is our world is talking about Austin’s comments. For example, a Fusion video about the story has gotten over 5 million views. They make good points, as you can see (and we have the proof to concur).
But here is our question: why is no one slamming Barstool Sports too? The guys in the video are just as racist as Austen, but we don’t see anything happening to them. So Austen gets fired and the Barstool Sports guys get a chuckle and a pat on the back for being “funny”? And oh yeah, a profile in GQ. FYI, this is the whole conversation, in case you want to see white male privilege in action. It’s not pretty.
Ah, the white male privilege is strong. The white dudes can get away with anything. And also get funding for their site, because you know… it’s topical and witty. But we’re bringing in Gollum to give them all a No Mames:
F off, frat boys. You are bunch of racist pendejos.
