Immigrant Rights Activist Hugo Castro Found Alive and Is Hospitalized After Going Missing in Mexico

UPDATE, May 1, 2017: Castro spoke to KPBS about what he said happened to him.

Days after he was deemed missing in Mexico by both the U.S. and Mexican governments, Border Angels activist Hugo Castro has been found alive, although he is hospitalized, according to a Tuesday Facebook post shared by his partner, Gaba Cortes.

Dear friends and family.
The health of Hugo Castro is delicate. He is hospitalized. The medical prognosis is still uncertain.
Now it’s time for this warrior to play his part.
We are sharing this to avoid more disinformation.
We know that everyone is very worried.
Regarding legal issues, the Office of the Attorney General continues to work with us and has been in contact all day.
The investigations continue.

NBC News spoke with U.S. consular officials and Castro’s Border Angels co-workers, reporting that “neither the activist’s co-workers nor the U.S. sources — who discussed the case on condition of anonymity — could provide any additional information about what had become of Castro or whether he had ever been in serious danger.”
