The following statement was issued late Tuesday night from Carlos García of Puente Arizona, just after Puente got its members safe from the Phoenix Police tear gas:

If Trump wants to actually address the division in this country, he would quit.

Trump came to Phoenix to tie himself to the racial profiling, the abuse, and the immigration policies of convicted Joe Arpaio that resulted in the former Sheriff being sued more than 2,000 times.

After refusing to condemn white supremacists in Charlottesville last weekend, Trump came to Phoenix to rally them. His nod to Arpaio is the latest sign of the white supremacy that is governing the White House and it will not be pardoned.

There is no negotiating with his hate agenda. There is only resisting it.

We thank everyone who rallied outside to say no to racism and we will continue to fight to end Trump’s abuses like we did Arpaio’s. The two deserve each other and their place as an ugly stain in this state and this country’s history.
