On Wednesday, immigrants rights organization United We Dream released Notifica, a new bilingual app which UWD said would “prepare you and your family against deportation.”

“Notifica gives you and your family a help button to alert key contacts if anyone is at risk of deportation. Simply create your messages today and you will be ready to press a button for help when you or your family needs it,” the new Notifica website said. “Alerts are designed to inform family members, legal advocates, and other contacts that the sender may have been detained by the police or Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).”

UWD announced the news of the app via Twitter:

According to the app, here is how it works:

  1. Notifica allows you to get in touch quickly with the people you trust most if you’re about to have an interaction with Immigration or other law enforcement.
  2. Each person in your network can receive a different message if you choose. Make sure to include the relevant information for that person and how they can help you.
  3. When you send an alert, Notfica will also send your location to the people in your network so they know where you were last.
  4. Learn from the “Your Rights” section so you are prepared in case of an interaction with law enforcement.
  5. When you set up Notifica, you’ll be asked to create a PIN for logging into the app. Make it easy to remember and different from your other passwords.

You can get the apps here for iPhone or here for Android.
