A Puerto Rican Olympic gymnast from the Bronx? Yeah, this ain't Hollywood, this is real life. This weekend in St. Louis, John Orozco, who hails from Boogiedown Bronx, won the national title in gymnastics. He will be representing the US at this summer's London Olympics.

Our friends at Latino Sports said it best:

It looks like we will have a Boricua from the Boogiedown Bronx representing the U.S.A. in the upcoming London Olympics. It was not the typical route for John Orozco to become a world class gymnast. His father enrolled John in free gymnast classes when he was seven years old that were being advertised for socioeconomically disadvantaged youth in Manhattan.

This homeboy from the Soundview section of the Bronx had the vision and fortitude to follow his dream and the support of his loving parents who would drive him 30 miles to and from his practices later in his training. This week when we are all celebrating the national Puerto Rican day parade down 5th Avenue let’s congratulate young men like John for demonstrating the best in our community.

Last month Orozco chatted with CNN's Piers Morgan. Here is a brief clip of his appearance.
