We turned our readers onto Kansas City band Making Movies a couple of years ago, and it looks like they’re continuing to tell stories of the Latino experience—not only through their music, but via community involvement and in sharing the stories of friends and fans they’ve made while touring.

Recently, Making Movies connected with the folks over at Una Lucha KC, a grassroots organization that seeks unity among vulnerable local communities who have been oppressed. Together, they produced “Listen,” the first installment of Making Movies Digital Shorts, a web series showcasing vibrant and talented artists doing work the band is passionate about.

In this episode, vocalist and guitarist Enrique Chi interviews Celia Ruiz, a Kansas City activist with Una Lucha KC, who is heavily involved in bringing the families of the Ayotzinapa students who went missing in September 2014, to the United States, where they’ll travel in a group known as #Caravana43.
