O’Malley Staffer to Clinton Campaign: Stop the Google Translate

Last night, a few of us were a bit perplexed by a tweet in Spanish sent out by Hillary Clinton’s campaign:

“We’ve had a lot of grandfathers in the White House, but we haven’t had a grandmother.” The tweet then linked to a video (in English), where Clinton had a video chat with Jaime Harrison. the chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party. On August 5, Clinton’s Facebook page posted this link with the following quote: “We’ve had a lot of grandfathers in the White House, but we haven’t had a grandmother.”

So in an effort to appeal to Spanish-speaking Latino voters, the Clinton campaign not only tweeted one really bizarre, contextless tweet but it was accompanied by an English video. It was awkward, sloppy and spoke of lazy Hispandering. It’s no wonder that this meme came our way last night from a fan:

Clinton

Voters, at least those who follow us, understand the issue here.

And apparently, so does Gabriela Domenzain, Director of Public Engagement for Martin O’Malley. This is what Domenzain tweeted:

Oh no, Google Translate. Oops.
