It is hard to believe that Latinos in Social Media (LATISM) is hosting its 8th annual conference starting today October 19 from Orlando, but that is exactly what is happening.

“We hosted our first conference in New York City eight years ago and since then have played a critical role in raising awareness on current issues impacting close to 60 million Latinos living in the United States,” said LATISM founder Ana Roca. “This community comes together annually to have an authentic discussion about the issues and challenges facing our communities, something of even more importance in this election year. In addition, the conference offers opportunities to learn from industry experts, connect with community leaders and influencers, and form key partnerships to empower social change agents to increase impact and positive change on issues affecting the Latino community.”

The conference will run up to October 21. Some of the highlights include:

  • A 48-Hour Hackathon event to connect technologists with community experts with the goal of solving critical issues in the Latino community. Final winners will be chosen and participants will get to witness demos.
  • LATISM’s second annual S.T.E.A.M. Fair will bring together students from 150 high schools across the United States to showcase Science/Technology/Engineering/Arts and Math projects. LATISM will select the top 40 students, 10 from each discipline, to showcase their award-winning contributions and one winner from each discipline will be awarded a scholarship prize from one of our participating sponsors.
