On Monday, 35 conservative voices published a letter to Speaker of the House Paul and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, asking Congress “to find a workable solution for young undocumented immigrants in our country previously protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.”
The letter (below) included several conservative Latino leaders: Alfonso Aguilar of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, Al Cardenas (formerly of the American Conservative Union), Linda Chavez of the Niskanen Center, Mario H. Lopez of the Hispanic Leadership Fund, Rev. Mark Gonzalez of the Hispanic Action Network, Gus Reyes of the Texas Baptist Life Commission and Dr. Samuel Rodriguez of the Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.
“We know that these young people who stepped forward in good faith are not threats to America,” the letter said. “Through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), they already have submitted to screening for criminal activity and potential threats to national security. Instead of deporting these young people, we should use this opportunity to focus on real solutions for our broken immigration system that address safety and security. Leaders on both sides of the aisle have suggested pairing increased border security funding with DACA reform, providing legislators a rare bipartisan opportunity to work together to make our country safer. This moment should not be squandered.”

This comes as time when Latino evangelicals are also pushing for a DACA solution. The following video features Christian DREAMers.
According to reports this week, “Congressional leaders are mulling a legislative fix to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that Trump rescinded in September with a six-month phase-out.”
