Central America’s Two Tragic Hurricanes

As the United States continues to focus on electoral politics in the middle of a global pandemic, Central America is trying to recover from two tragic hurricanes that struck the region in November.

On this episode of Latino Rebels Radio, host Julio Ricardo Varela welcomes two guests who have been closely following the situation:

  • Saraciea Fennell of The Bronx is Reading — Bronx Book Festival. Saraciea, who identifies as Black and Honduran, is one of many leaders who are raising funds to help the indigenous Garifuna community in Honduras. More at www.givebackgarifuna.org/unidos or @givebackgari.
  • Journalist Jimena Tavel of the Miami Herald. Jimena has been filing stories about how the hurricanes, including how they have displaced people and created more climate refugees. She was born and raised in Tegucigalpa before moving to Florida as a teenager.
