The violence that erupted in Brazil over the weekend has broad implications for Americans. Most immediately, it’s a reminder that instead of championing democracy, we’re exporting shameful coup tactics.
With the overturning of ‘Roe v. Wade’, threats of interstate criminal prosecutions will chill both healthcare workers and patients and undermine access to care, particularly for undocumented immigrants and other vulnerable populations.
Regardless of the election outcome, we must also acknowledge that no one is coming to magically save us.
In my own politically divided familia, Trump support is far less about religious, fiscal or socially conservative values and much more about how we interface and interact with racist white people.
Collectively, we can change the lived experience of people of color and immigrants.
