So The Daily Caller’s Education Editor Eric Owens, the reporter who thought that adding a lead image of some dudes in mariachi outfits made sense in a TDC story about how UCLA’s student government is discouraging the use of “illegal immigrants” (like The Associated Press), responded to a comment request from our friends at HuffPost’s Latino Voices.

This is what HuffPost reported (with some bad Google Translate):

UPDATE: Daily Caller Education Editor Eric Owens responded to a request for comment by email, writing in bad Spanish:

“El Daily Caller es una organización que no tiene una posición sobre inmigración. Pero, nos encantan bandas de mariachia y acogemos favorablemente ninguna razón que podemos incluir sus fotos.”

We appreciate the Spanish, though it’s a little broken. Our rough translation: “The Daily Caller is an organization that doesn’t have a position on immigration. But, we love mariachia [sic] bands and we favorably embrace no reason that we can include their photos.”

By the way, before gracing us with his presence at TDC, Owens worked at the U.S. Department of State seven years ago, as his public LinkedIn profile states:
