The film brought together a group of young, talented individuals from the largest public housing project in Puerto Rico who rose beyond their circumstances to star in a film that has opened the eyes and hearts of viewers on the island and abroad to the sobering realities of our public housing projects.
On September 26, 2013, POR AMOR EN EL CASERÍO opened in 16 movie theaters throughout Puerto Rico. Positive movie reviews continue to appear in local newspapers, such as El Nuevo Dia, and blogs. Shows sold-out in the first three weeks, making this film one of the most popular local films in recent history.
“POR AMOR EN EL CASERÍO,” translated in English as “For Love in the Caserío,” is a film based on the life experiences of writer/co-executive producer Antonio Morales and issues faced by the youth of the housing project Luis Llorens Torres on a daily basis, infused with a good dose of comedy. The two main characters, Cristal and Angelo, meet and fall in love, yet their love is wrought with sacrifice since they each have family members that belong to the feuding gangs that keep the housing project in constant turmoil.
