New internet-based magazine looks to network with its readers and establish a face-to-face relationship with the Puerto Rican community in New York City.
New York City (May 2014) – La Respuesta magazine (www.larespuestamedia.com) proudly announces its first networking event in New York City at the iconic Camaradas El Barrio. Featuring eclectic rhythms by DJ Christian Mártir, the event is an opportunity for staff and supporters to directly engage its readers in a festive spirit typical of the Nuyorican experience. La Respuesta hopes to gain feedback on the publication and increase its foothold in “Nueva Yol’s” long-standing Boricua Diaspora community.
The event, titled ¿Qué Pasa, NYC?, is the second “meet & greet” organized by La Respuesta (the first took place in its Chicago base) and will be followed by more “¿Qué Pasa?” events around the country. Limited edition stickers and buttons will be given away; and donations will be solicited to support the grassroots publication.

A little about La Respuesta magazine:
La Respuesta is a groundbreaking new publication that brings Puerto Ricans in the United States to the forefront of the conversation. Directly translating to “The Response,” La Respuesta is an English-language multimedia platform that is the sole outlet devoted to reporting on the experiences of Puerto Ricans that have settled in the U.S. for over a century – the “Boricua Diaspora.”The magazine includes the voices of accomplished artists, such as playwrights Quiara Alegría Hudes and José Rivera; political figures, like Rep. Luis V. Gutiérrez; activists and “everyday” people representing diverse Puerto Rican communities nationally.
Additionally, La Respuesta works to document history, and encourage a critical dialogue on issues affecting Puerto Rican communities, as well as highlight their struggles, advances and dreams. Contributors to the magazine coined the phrase, “Producing a mosaic of the Puerto Rican Diaspora,” and that is our intent.
Since it official launch in August 2013, La Respuesta has featured nine issues with nearly 100 articles and media, gained a diverse and broad readership, and earned the attention of several media outlets, including Al Jazeera America’s “The Stream.”
