There are certain topics in the Latino digital space that will always get attention, no matter when, no matter how. For example, Danny Trejo, Marc Anthony memes, silly videos about speaking Spanish, Chespirito and Selena Quintanilla.
Especially Selena. Because, you know, “anything for Salinas.”
Yesterday, the admiration was front and center on our Facebook site, after we shared a Change.org online petition we had received from a Twitter fan. The petition asks, “As a huge fan and customer of MAC Cosmetics and Latina woman, we want MAC Cosmetics to create a line that represents the community that shops MAC make-up. Selena Quintanilla is an iconic legend in our community and would she be alive, she’d be a perfect MAC girl!”
This post, by far, was our most popular Facebook post of the weekend. And did you read the comments? The question to ask is really this one: why wouldn’t MAC do this?
By the way, the petition has taken off.
UPDATE, February 18: MAC sent the petition organizer its response.
The loyalty and enthusiasm of Selena’s fans are clearly evident and we love this. M·A·C admires the passion and joy Selena brought to the world. She was an amazing person with amazing talent. We consider all types of feedback like this as we plan our collaborations.
