In a video posted Wednesday on his social media profiles, Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro sent a message to the people of United States. In the video, which is captioned in English (typos and awkward translations included) and is scored with dramatic music, Maduro believes that Venezuela’s opposition is staging a coup against him, with the direct involvement of the Trump administration.
Maduro insists that any signal of U.S. intervention would create a situation that, according to him, would be worse than Vietnam. As for the latest from Venezuela, opposition leader Juan Guiadó, who declared himself interim president of the country last week, said Thursday that his family is being threatened.
