The In The Heights trailer dropped this morning and it makes you feel that, just like the characters in the movie, summer of 2020 will be full of dreams.

Penned by Quiara Alegría Hudes and directed by Crazy Rich Asians’ Jon M. Chu, this is a movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony-award winning and first Broadway musical of the same name in 2008. The film stars Anthony Ramos (A Star Is Born and Monster and Men) as Usnavi, a charismatic bodega owner of Sueñito. Usnavi has big dreams and hopes and sings about a better life. Ramos told People Magazine, “his dreams are so big that he’s so scared of them.” Fear is paramount since the trailer tells us that he might not have enough money to stay in the neighborhood.

Alongside Ramos are Melissa Barrera (Vida), who incarnates Vanessa, a girl with aspirations of becoming a fashion designer —and is also Usnavi’s love interest—, Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton and BlacKkKlansman), singer/songwriter Leslie Grace, Olga Merediz (Broadway’s In the Heights), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Broadway’s Rent), Gregory Diaz IV (Broadway’s Matilda the Musical), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black) and Jimmy Smits (the Star Wars films).

With lines like “this is a story about a block that is disappearing,” “little details that tell the world we are not invisible,” and “we have to assert our dignity in small ways,” it’s very clear that characters will experience family struggles and love hardship, while dealing with the monster of gentrification that’s threatening to displace everything they love and everything they represent.

With eye-popping colors, electrifying beats, heart-warming lyrics, and a star-studded diverse cast full of synergy, In The Heights promises to bring everybody to their feet when it’s released on June 26, 2020.
