This morning, Jesús Murillo Karam, Mexico’s attorney general, is not expressing any regret for the “Ya me cansé” (“I am so tired of this”) comment he made last Friday at the end of a press conference where he said that three members of the Guerreros Unidos gang admitted to burning the bodies of the 43 missing Ayoztinapa students. Those words have lead to a global social media call in solidarity of the missing students and as well as a condemnation of the Mexican government.

According to @diario24hora, Murillo Karam is affirming that he does not take back how comment nor does he regret it.

This is what another outlet reported:

En entrevista con Carlos Loret de Mola, el funcionario afirmó “estoy cansado de una violencia brutal” y agregó “es normal que me canse, no es problema de vigor, sino de sentimiento”.

(In an interview with Carlos Loret de Mola, the official said, “I’m tired of a brutal violence,” adding that “it is normal for him to get tired, not as a problem of stamina, but one of feeling.)

Murillo Karam also said that the government has nothing to hide about Ayotzinapa, and it should not be an indication of the Peña Nieto administration.

Meanwhile, while protests continued over the weekend, many are questioning the time of Murillo Karam’s press conference on Friday, just days before President Enriqe Peña Nieto’s trip to China and Australia.

UPDATE: Later today Reuters reported additional details about what Murillo Karam said:

Asked if his phrase was unfortunate, a defiant Murillo told local television on Monday: “No. I was tired and that is the truth.”

“Naturally, I have no reason to lie, I’m as human as the next person and I also get tired,” he said, when asked if he would say it again. “I have slept four hours a night for 30 days, and that day I had been awake for 40 hours.”
