Alaska Congressman Slammed for ‘Wetback’ Comment in 2013 Now Peddling Statehood for Puerto Rico

You all remember Rep. Don Young, right? How can you not forget this?

Looks like Congressman Young is back, but this time the Alaska Republican is now visiting Puerto Rico to raise money days before he is scheduled to hold a hearing about the island’s political status. As POLITICO reported last week:

Alaska Republican Don Young is holding a fundraiser in Puerto Rico Friday, just days before he chairs a controversial hearing on the territory’s political and economic status.

The close proximity of the hearing and the fundraising event has sparked ethical concerns among some of Young’s colleagues on a Natural Resources subcommittee, but committee Chairman Rob Bishop (R-Utah) told POLITICO that Young is free to set his own schedule.

Apparently, Puerto Rico’s most ardent statehooders are counting on Young to be their latest hero. You know, the guy who had to apologize for “wetback” comments.

Hit it, Gollum.

This is what is wrong with Puerto Rico’s statehood movement: of all the congressmen they pick… it’s the “wetback” one.
